Great news! They are maybe making a new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” movie! Terrible news! The “they” in the previous sentence does not refer to Joss Whedon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, or any of the terrific writers or stars of the groundbreaking television series that goes by the same name. It turns out that the woman who produced the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie still hold the rights to any film version and she’s considering using them.
She has stated that she will NOT use any characters from the original film or television series but likes the general mythology and would like to use that as a backdrop for a new film (to be fair I’m paraphrasing someone mostly likely paraphrasing her). Another bad omen for this new film is that Joss has always stated that the original movie version of “BTVS” got away from his original vision because of outside influences. The original versions director was Fran Rubel Kuzui who it should be noted is the woman trying to bring Buffy back to the big screen and in typical hysterical blogger fashion I’m saying that in Joss speak “outside influences” plainly means Mrs. Kuzui.
