What’s Wolfram Alpha? More importantly what’s wrong with Wolfram Alpha? What Wolfram Alpha is, is a computational knowledge engine and what that means is WA is supposed to answer a question with an answer. It is promise of the original “askjeeves.com” promised once more but with much fancier technology behind it.
Wolfram Alpha uses what is called the Symantec Web technology. The promise is that you can ask it a question and it will give you an answer in plain English. Who is the first president of the USA is answer nicely by a table that includes George Washington as the answer and lists Adams and Jefferson as well; it even puts a nice little timeline graphic on screen for you.
Ask WA; “What baseball team has won the most World Series?” and it doesn’t know what to do. Actually it couldn’t answer any of my questions except the ones about Presidents.
I can’t wait for this to work but unfortunately it doesn’t work yet… Give it a shot though and maybe you’ll have better luck than me!
